Rabbi “Lazer” Raphael Brody developed “Lazer Beams” – a unique, universal and highly effective holistic approach to human health – a person’s overall wellness from all aspects including body, mind and soul. His life mission is to help people of all backgrounds to be healthy and happy – it’s that simple.
Let’s now meet him:
Through decades of education and experience, American-born Rabbi Lazer Brody has devoted his life to helping others cope with the massive pressures of modern life as they affect both emotional and physical health. He is no stranger to dealing with ultra-high pressure and stress, as a two-war combat veteran of the Israel Defense Forces, having served his country in regular and reserve duty for over 29 years. Even after his discharge, he continued to confront acute stress situations as the spiritual rehabilitation chaplain of an Israeli prison, helping inmates cope with extreme anger, explosive negative emotions and the trauma of incarceration.
In addition to his military and prison-system experience, here is a brief synopsis of Rabbi Brody’s varied career and educational background, all which he draws from in his books and applies in his blog posts, podcasts, coaching and counseling:
Applied science education and experience: Lazer Brody graduated from the University of Maryland where he studied agriculture, specializing in horticulture and deciduous orchards. He did extensive post-graduate work in the fields of food and agriculture-products technology in addition to being a farmer in Israel for over ten years.
Spiritual education and experience: A graduate of the Aish Hatorah rabbinical seminary in Jerusalem, Lazer Brody is an ordained Orthodox Jewish rabbi who holds rabbinical ordinations from Rabbi Noach Weinberg osb”m of Aish HaTora in Jerusalem, Rabbi Yitzchak Kulitz osb”m Head Rabbi of Jerusalem, Dayan Natan Kupschitz shlit’a from Jerusalem, and Rabbi Zalman Nechemia Goldberg shlit’a from Jerusalem. A former radio host and commentator on Arutz 7 Israel National Radio in English, he was nicknamed Israel’s “Voice of Emuna” by anchorwoman Tamar Yonah for his uncanny optimism and ability to see the Divine Providence behind current events. He translated the worldwide best-selling “The Garden of Emuna” and many other books while devoting extensive time and energy to globetrotting and inspiring audiences of all backgrounds in English-speaking countries worldwide and providing individuals of all backgrounds with spiritual guidance and holistic health coaching.
Health and Fitness education and experience: Brody holds personal fitness trainer and health coach certifications from ACTION and ExpertRating. He holds specific specialized certifications in Senior Fitness, Holistic Nutrition and Pilates as well. As a rabbi, he realized that most health problems stemmed from spiritual and emotional difficulties as well as a lack of awareness of basic fitness and preventative measures. He began by enhancing personal fitness among the Orthodox Jewish population, which evolved into the broader and more universal approach he has taken in recent years.
Methodology and Approach: Everything Rabbi Lazer Brody practices, teaches, counsels and advises is in keeping with traditional Jewish teachings Maimonides in general and Brody’s own mentor and spiritual guide, the renowned Melitzer Rebbe of Ashdod in particular. While combining modern training and nutritional practices with timeless truths of the Torah, he helps people attain their very best in physical and spiritual health while looking at the whole person, body and soul. The many books that Rabbi Brody has written attest to his unique emphasis on simple faith, known in Hebrew as emuna, as the key to spiritual and emotional health and wellness, which are inseparable partners with physical fitness and nutrition.
Outlook and Mission Statement: Emuna is synonymous to optimism; When a person realizes that the Almighty can do whatever He wants whenever He wants, there is no room for despair in life. Knowing this is a basic human right that all mankind is deserving of.
